Yeti - Great Pyrenees
Born: May 17, 2011
Yeti is a young pup with a guardian heritage. She is a big girl and is growing quickly. We are working hard to train her and she is an eager learner. She can already be off leash with the goats and chickens, though desperately wants Moby, the rabbit, to play. She has learned several basic obedience commands, though 'come' is a challenge (typical for her breed). We are patient, and with consistency, are sure she will be a terrific guardian and great companion. As you can, we are still working on convincing her the dog bed is more comfortable than the couch. She will never replace Biscut in our hearts, but I think we can make room for one more.
Biscut - Border Collie
Born: January 28, 1995
Passed: February 28, 2011
Biscut is an amazing spirit. She was with me for 16 years. We've gone fishing, hiking, camping. She accepted exotic birds, chickens, goats, a rabbit, a husband, and a child into our lives. She was very intelligent and highly trained. Until her health started failing, she was always a bundle of energy, ready to work. It was always a pleasure to come home and be greeted by her. She was a great friend who was always there. It was important for us to there there for her all the way to the end. Biscut passed quietly in my arms on Feb. 28, 2011 with my husband and son present. As she passed, she laid across the three of us and was finally out of pain. She was 16 years, 28 days old. Ironically, shortly after her passing, it began to snow. Snow is very rare here, usually occurring once every 40 years.
Moby - Hot Tot Rabbit
Moby, like so many other of our pets, is a rescue. We adopted him in 2008 from the Humane Society. Moby had been trained as a house rabbit and was turned in by his former owners for chewing. Rabbits are members of the rodent family and are
required to chew to wear down their teeth. Moby has plenty of 'bunny-tude'. He loves his time out of the cage, though he does annoy the dog by pushing her with his nose.

BC (aka Barn Cat) - Calico Cat
Not all of our names are original. BC came with her name from another farm. She is a sweetie and loves to have her belly rubbed. Unfortunately she is dark in color and at night, runs out in front of me, lies on her back and gets incensed when I step on her. She is a good mouser and especially loves to catch gophers. BC is getting older, but still struts her stuff like a youngster.
Simon - Siamese Cat
Sometimes the animals find us. Simon moved in back in 1999. We aren't sure where he came from, but we are glad that he's here. He is also friendly and a great mouser. Simon is a typical siamese and is more vocal than BC. He has no problem reminding us when it is feeding time. Simon greets us when we come home and loves to be petted.
The Chickens
If you don't make breakfast, you'll be dinner. We have a small flock of chickens that provide us with fresh eggs. We don't currently have any particular breed as they were originally gifts from the neighbors. They are a mix of Barred Rock, Buff Orphingtons, and something with feathered feet. The chickens are relatively tame as any that are aggressive towards people (especially roosters) are destined for the frying pan.
The Pigs - In the Freezer!
We tried pigs in 2010 through the 4-H Swine project. After redoing infratructure damages, we have decided to support future projects by purchasing pigs at fair that are ready for slaughter. Our first pigs were well known in our project for being horribly behaved. Despite this, my son placed 6th out of 18 in beginning showmanship (the highest placing first-timer!). How bad were they? When the fair grounds staff has to bring in a tractor and all parents have to help the kids with the mess our two pigs made.... We are now infamous!
